Change starts with you
Efficiency trumps effort in high-performance. My interest is in the efficient nature of the individual and team. Each is as important as the other. This interdependence is known as Ji-ji-mu-ge in Japanese Zen teaching. The interconnectivity of all things.
Wu Wei is Chinese for “effortless action” or flow state. We have all been there, but most struggle to reconnect to it. You will find many coaches teaching you how to push harder and drive forward, but very few asking you to do less.
If you want more customers, you must ensure that your capacity for more is also ready. You cannot view the customer without understanding you, your team, your organisation and your overall health.
Of course, it is possible to ignore the interconnectivity, but the links that bind the process are no longer so strong.
Consider a damaged spider web. It will trap some flys, and it will hold some of the morning's dew, but it will be neither as efficient nor beautiful as a fully formed web.
In turn, it needs a busier spider, exerting more energy than needed.
However, the spider is often far cleverer than the human organisation.. The spider will focus on fixing the web, reconnecting the broken chains and increasing the efficient nature of the web. He won’t hope that it will all just work out.
In the above action, the spider moves in Wu Wei (effortless action/flow), and it also lives through Ji-ji-mu-ge, the understanding of the interconnectivity of all things.
To change your business starts with you. When you are in a flow, that is the starting point for change. Your leadership teams and culture needs to be tight, clear and evolved. Anything less is a broken web.
I coach c-suite high-performance teams. It is not easy or pleasant to work with me. However, repairing the web is better than watching it slowly disintegrate. Change is only for the strong-willed, but everyone can be strong. That’s a choice, not a state of mind.
Change starts with you.
